The Mount Edgcumbe Story

Search through the woods and sandstone rocks to find the ‘Georgian Gem’ that is the MOUNT EDGCUMBE. Under new ownership and after extensive refurbishments, this wonderful establishment set in the heart of Tunbridge Wells Common is overflowing with warmth, charm and a lovely family atmosphere. You can relax and unwind with a cracking glass of wine or one of our local ales in the unique 8th century cave or on our plush sofa’s in front of a roaring log fire, or enjoy a feast with friends in the restaurant or just savour the elevated views of the common in the secluded garden.

The lunch menu is sure to please all palates with delicious traditional pub classics and our jaw-dropping Edgcumbe Burger which will happily quench the largest of appetites. If you are looking for a light option, try one of our sharing platters, the Charcuterie board goes down very well with a pint of Harvey’s or two! The dinner menu offers a more a la carte choice for the discerning diner, with carefully planned dishes based around a strong belief of seasonality & sustainability. With local meats & fish from local Kent suppliers, and some superb foraged ingredients coming from James Grant our wild food expert, along with many other specialist ingredients from bespoke supplier’s, dinner at the Edgcumbe is an experience every day of the week.

No Restaurant or pub would be complete these days without a superbly stocked wine cellar or a choice of fine local ales, thankfully here at the Edgcumbe we have both, along with our fine range of whiskies, ports & brandies and some interesting international lagers we have something to tempt all our wonderful clientele. Our range of healthy juices & old-fashioned soft drinks will please all the tee-totallers & little ones alike.

After ‘extensive research’ most of our wines come from Ellis of Richmond and a little known wine supplier & importer Waples Wines, they have both given us access to some amazing wines which we known all will enjoy.

Being on the Kent & Sussex border we have un-paralled access to the South East’s many breweries and we try to feature as many of them as possible. With four different ales on all the time we can offer  something for the stalwarts of the old school like ‘Harvey’s’ as well as offering something for the new age ale drinker from the likes of The Darkstar Brewing Co. Since opening some of the favourites have been Tonbridge Brewery Rustic, Full Moon Brewery Red Pacific, Longman Brewery Old Man, Dark Star American Pale Ale, Kissingate Brewery Moon, Rother Valley Brewery Blues, Anchor Springs Brewery Riptide, Larkin’s Tradional, HopDaemon Green Daemon Helles,to name but a few.

The first floor restaurant is the perfect place to have an intimate meal set within homely surroundings and superb views of the common. This floor is also available, along with our clock lounge & private dining room, to hire for your special event. With variable capacity levels, this floor is very versatile and has already hosted family reunions, pre-wedding dinners, specialist buffets for PTA groups, business meetings, networking lunches, training days, wakes & a wonderful styling event. The atmosphere, views & tailored dining packages will not disappoint!

Once the days become longer & Spring finally reaches Tunbridge Wells our beautiful secluded garden comes into its own. Al fresco dining & drinks in the sun really show why we are the Heart of the Country in the Heart of the Town.

Our Garden and ground floor are accessed directly from the ample car park so Wheelchair access to the Edgcumbe is very simple, we also have tie rings for dogs & there is access to water bowls & taps for dog owners to refresh their pooches. Dogs on leads are very welcome in the bar area and we have two tables in the restaurant where your dog can accompany you too.
